New Graduates of SCVT

Congratulations to our latest class of Spiritual Care Visitors, who completed their 10-week training on June 28.  Hosted by Greater St. John Bible Church in conjunction with Rush University Medical Center, the training was tailored to meet the needs of West Side pastors and their congregations. Graduates shared that the program has helped them deal with highly stressful situations in their family and community. Being able to act in a caring manner is helpful in times of illness, death and trauma, and our training informs students on a variety of situations they might encounter. Spiritual Care Visitor Training Brochure

Applications are open through August 18 for the fall sessions of our unique Spiritual Care Visitor Training. This 10-week class equips you with good listening skills and a basic knowledge of how to be a helpful presence with those in crisis. The Art of Healing 2017

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Special guests made for a very special evening at the 2017 Art of Healing gala. Preston Bradley Hall was filled with 200 generous friends who donated over $80,000 to support Chaplaincy, Education and Wellness/Spirituality at Bishop Anderson House. Dr. Jay Shannon, CEO of the Cook County Health & Hospitals System congratulated honorees Dr. Kimberly Joseph and The Rev. Carol Reese on their efforts to bring spiritual care to patients at Stroger Hospital. Community-based CPE Comes to Bishop Anderson House

Rush University Medical Center, in partnership with Bishop Anderson House, is pleased to announce a unique offering for those interested in Chaplaincy. A community/parish-based extended (26-week) unit of clinical pastoral education will run September 18, 2017- March 23, 2018, with classes held at Bishop Anderson House Mondays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Rev. Thomas S. Rogers, III ACPE, Inc. Supervisor will be supervisor for the group. Students in the unit will need to secure their own clinical placement site. A Glimpse into Chaplaincy

Recently we were honored to give our partners at Project Connect a space of peace for their grief and stress as they care for folks living, and dying, with HIV/AIDS at the CORE Center.  Chaplain Jim read this lovely reflection about chaplaincy at a memorial service held in our comforting office space.
