Once upon a time, 70 years ago, our agency began it’s ministry in a beautiful brownstone House, located near what was then St. Luke’s Presbyterian Hospital. This year we were fortunate to meet several friends who had attended dinners and classes in that House. It founded as a sanctuary for medical and nursing students to sort out the place of spirituality in the medical world. Now our House and Home are located on the campus of Rush University Medical Center…how did we get here?

As the hospital expanded in the 1960’s, our House was purchased, and in return, Bishop Anderson House was given office space of the same square footage, in perpetuity, on the Rush University Medical School campus. (As well as endowing the Bishop Anderson House Chair of the Department of Religion, Health and Human Values.)

This amazing long-term partnership means that as a non-profit agency we pay no capital costs, no utilities, no IT costs–every dollar that is donated can go directly to the programming we proudly offer–professional chaplaincy at Stroger Cook County Hospital, our renowned Spiritual Care Visitor Training, and, in keeping with our historical roots, self-care and wellness events of Illinois Medical District medical staff.

Thank you for 70 wonderful years, as a House, and a Home for Spiritual Care.
