Griswold Grant Awarded to BAH Trauma Bereavement Group

By |2016-11-30T17:19:45-06:00November 30th, 2016|Chaplain|

Paul Goodenough is the recipient of the 2016 Phoebe Griswold Grant for instituting the Stroger Family Trauma Bereavement Group which focuses on violence prevention and trauma intervention, so that families can cope, and communities can heal in meaningful ways. The program addresses the needs of the mothers who receive education and encouragement about coping with trauma and in turn, provides support to a whole family. When the mothers meet, they create a common bond and have a greater sense of solidarity and empowerment. THANK YOU, EPISCOPAL CHURCH WOMEN!

The Bishop Anderson House family gathered around our new table last week--literally and figuratively! We were joined for breakfast by Penny McMillan, grand-daughter of THE Bishop Anderson, her daughter Susan, and daughter-in-law Linda. Penny regaled us with family stories and helped us learn more about the Anderson descendants. The family particularly enjoyed seeing an historic photo of Bishop Anderson that Becky found online. We are forever grateful to the McMillan family for the substantial donation that made much of the office restoration possible and appreciate their efforts to keep their family legacy vibrant. Later in the afternoon, group of BAH friends (our family) [...]

Bishop Anderson House Chaplain Jim Croegaert is also a volunteer with the Red Cross Disaster Spiritual Care team. He just returned from a 2-week mission of mercy to Greenville, NC, comforting residents whose lives have been upended in the flooding after Hurricane Matthew. Bishop Anderson House sent over 100 Teddy Bears and a full box of prayer shawls to assist in his spiritual care efforts. From Jim's posts: "Last Tuesday evening I was asked to depart on Wednesday, Oct. 12, to be part of the early Red Cross Disaster Spiritual Care effort. I am in Greenville, NC, about midway through, coming [...]

Spiritual Care Week

By |2016-11-02T11:18:08-05:00October 20th, 2016|Bishop Anderson House, Chaplain, Education|

Sharing her insights into spiritual resiliency and contemplation, The Rev. Lisa Senuta recently helped a group of care-givers develop some tools for strength in the face of caring for loved ones. A diverse class of lay chaplain training alums, professional chaplains, clergy and friends of BAH gathered in our cozy living room for 4 hours of peace and meditation. Lisa created a space for participants to step away from caregiving for self-care and silence. Taking the time to reconnect with nature and take time for self was a powerful theme of the day. The workshop was an ideal way to honor the theme [...]

For the past 12 months, Paul Goodenough has been serving as Bishop Anderson House's full-time chaplain fellow at Stroger Hospital. Paul's passion and compassion have earned him the respect of his colleagues in the Trauma unit and throughout the hospital. After months of patiently working to become fully "badged" in the Cook County Health System, Paul now proudly wears the Stroger badge and will be able to provide an even higher level of care to patients. We share in his delight at being fully incorporated into the Hospital system. Paul recently completed his 2000th hour of supervised professional chaplaincy, and [...]
