Get Involved with Bishop Anderson House
We welcome you to our Bishop Anderson House family; we hope you can connect with us through these offerings:
Offered September through November and February through May, this course is offered for 10 consecutive Saturdays in locations throughout northern Illinois. The current course is underway at St. James Cathedral, Chicago, and Fall of 2018 is tentatively scheduled for St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Glen Ellyn.
Our greatest need is for volunteers to serve on the planning teams for our annual Spring and Fall benefits.
Contact us at 312.563.4825to assist with these events.
Help us spread the word
Bishop Anderson House “Ambassadors” spread the story of our ministry at congregations, Diocesan Convention, Synod Assembly and other gatherings in the Chicago region. If you would like to share our story of Keeping the Care in Health Care via chaplaincy, education and wellness/prevention, please contact Tommy at 312.563.4824.
Attend a Continuing Education Event or Retreat
We offer periodic refresher presentations for alumni of Spiritual Care training and also partner with RUSH to present world-class speakers in the field of chaplaincy. Sign up for our newsletter on Facebook to stay informed.
The focus of the unit is to build a basic spiritual care toolkit while learning how to enter and leave new systems as well as navigate conflict. CPE is based upon action – reflection – new action. A student engages in ministry, reflects on it, and then changes their style based on feedback from peers, supervisors, and patients/clients/families.
Students will need a Bachelor of Arts degree (required) with a Master’s level degree from an accredited seminary achieved or in process preferred. CPE is adult experiential learning so the ideal student will be self-directed and know what they want to learn.
Host a Self-Care Event for Medical Staff
Recently, BAH staff has come to realize that church volunteers are greatly needed for our self- care events. We are always looking for experts in relaxation techniques, yoga, and massage, as well as volunteers to help set up spaces and provide food and drinks. With our current staff, we can execute approximately 2 events annually, but we would love to do more- and the staff at The CORE Center and Project CONNECT would love to have more as well. We often hear comments like “Can you come back next week?” and “When is the next one?? Contact Ann at email@example.com if your organization is interested in hosting an event.
Collect Supplies for Homeless Patients of the CORE Center
Many of the CORE patients live on the streets or extremely limited incomes. We are working to coordinate volunteers to supplement supplies that Project Connect staff now purchase from their own personal funds:
- Healthy, packaged snacks and drinks
- Hygiene products (soaps, shampoos, lip balm, hand sanitizer, etc.)
- New gloves, hats, scarves, and socks
